You have the wrong channel nuts. You need the ones that a bolt screws into the channel nut thread. Take the bolt out. Slide it in sideways then screw the bolt back into the thread.

The newer rhino racks don’t have the channel opening, so you can use the entire rack. Gotta grab a pack of zwiflocks. Easy to use and better than destroying the rack haha
