I bought my Deb dress there. We went in May and the salespeople were all a flutter helping me pick it out, grilling me on whether or not I was going to do the Texas bow, ushering me into the fitting area for the alteration ladies to pin it to perfection. They were discussing and debating like they were solving one of the world’s great problems. Then they asked when my ball was and I said the date which was in June or July and they assumed the following year because that is how far girls would plan. When I said no, next month, not next year the look of disappointment is something I will never forget. These women were so precious and lovely and after their shock, they threw the gears into emergency mode and I went to my ball with the perfect dress and lots of clothes and there is no place in the world that is as special as downtown Neimans.

This is hitting hard. This store is such a part of my history. Every Saturday before Christmas my mom and I would do lunch at Zodiac and finish our holiday shopping. My wedding dress and veil came from Neimans and when my kids were little we would go to Breakfast with Santa. I don’t think people who didn’t live or were not from Dallas realize what a special place this was for many people. My husband and I went and had lunch at the Zodiac for the last time a week ago. I sat there and cried through lunch. Could not believe how hard this has hit me. Closing of a chapter in my life.

Wow, had no clue. My aunt shopped there. She would have their magazine mailed to her home monthly. I would flip through it and smell the perfumes and look throiugh the catalog. So many memories of her shopping there, walking to and from their parking lot on commerce in her heels.
