Replying to @Anu | matcha & books 🍵📚 HMM Not my fav, but above average👌 🍵 Brand: The Matcha Tokyo (100% Organic Matcha) 🥤 Name: Japan Premium (I believe it’s the most expensive one from their line) 💰 Price: ¥2950 per 20g (~USD$20) Not too expensive considering it’s 100% also organic. 📝 My Review: 3/5 for the matcha itself. 4/5 for when it’s paired with sweetener and milk. Japan Premium has quite a vibrant color with a strong vegetal scent. It froths up quite easily when whisked. While the product information states that it’s mildly bitter, I found that it leaves quite a bitter aftertaste on the tongue. It’s also a bit astringent and did not have any sweet notes as I would like it 😅 I definitely do not recommend drinking it as an usucha. Adding sweetener really brings out the matcha flavor, and when paired with a creamy milk, it turns out to be pretty good - good enough that I would pay $8 for a matcha latte like that; however I do prefer less to no sugar, so it’s not my personal favorite matcha powder. 💁🏻‍♀️ Verdict: This bag was gifted by my sister, and I still reached for it and have finished it while pairing with pistachio or almond milk. I don’t think I would purchase it again as I feel like other matcha brands have more complex flavor and better aftertaste with equal pricing compared to Tokyo Premium. HOWEVER, if I’m ever around the area, I would definitely try out the drinks they make from the cafe!
