I started Vis a Vis a French restaurant at Chun Tin road for only $5K, a 2 storey building in 1992, set lunch for 3 courses at $18 and dinner at $38 for 4 courses with coffee or tea. and till 2007 its only $7K. After my landlord passed away, when the sons took over, the rental grew drastically that force me to closed in 2015 at $25K.

during that time my dad was the sole breadwinner and supported the whole family with 3 kids and gotten a 5 room flat brand new. He was earning around 2k iirc. Later on when his income increased he bought a second hand car. I don’t think is possible now

This stage back then was already very impressive for Singapore already at that time. Before the other nations caught up and awake and before the economy game rules were reset and reshuffled and geo politics differences made things so difficult and tricky to navigate through in current times. Especially when seen in a South East Asia context. I cannot see much reasons to complain about living in Singapore during this period. We grow so fast just 2 decades plus away from independence. The golden era.

This has always been my favourite wish and scenario to play with in my mind for a very long time already. Not too young and not too old and everyone is still alive and healthy. Though this can never be able to fulfil but I found out on rare occasions I can get back this feeling again when the right conditions are met. I took care of my health and life and the body rewarded me by letting time be kind on me and there are a few others I know and love that have gone through a similar process like me and when we meet together on a nice happy day in a happy familiar place the feeling really starts to come back again and we can almost fooled ourselves thinking we are back again. It is now the closest I have. next to actual time travel. That's why i defend the places and people I like a lot.
