This was us I waited my whole life for this house, for my kids. To give them what I never had. I cried at the signing. Worked for years to make this happen. We lived there 3 years then our drunk neighbor decided to shoot into our yard at my kids because the neighbor between us was having a brush fire. Our entire family has such bad pst we had to move. We went from a 2500 sq ft house to a trailer on property because it’s better than staring at blood stains on the ground. Both officers are ok. Everyone in the house is ok. That day is something our entire household will never forget. Thank god for those officers and thank god for my husband and roommate. My husband is the one who shot back and my FIL is the one who gave aid, my husband’s best friend is the one who’s a vet.

Wait, I’m sorry, and I genuinely mean no disrespect to the officers that were shot and I am very grateful they were both ok, but how did the neighbors not receive any kind of recognition or state medal for their bravery and coming to the aid of the officers, potentially saving both from further injury or worse?

If they have spouses or partners I can’t help but think about how they felt thinking about if that had been a slug instead. What a terrifying ordeal and then to have to see them go back a year later
