@wondrous.parenting: Do you want to raise a child like Eileen Gu? 👀 Confident. Driven. Resilient. All-rounded. But I think there’s a more interesting lesson from her upbringing than simply “push your child to succeed.” Eileen Gu was raised in the US by her Chinese mother, and her upbringing seemed to combine two things we don’t always put together: High expectations + high warmth. She was encouraged to work hard, persist and take her goals seriously. But she was also given room to explore different interests, pursue her passions, rest and be herself. And this got me thinking about the differences we often talk about between Asian and Western parenting. There are strengths we can learn from both. From Asian parenting: → Don’t underestimate your child. → Teach persistence. → Set high expectations. → Let children experience the satisfaction of getting better at something. From Western parenting: → Give children a voice. → Encourage independence. → Make room for exploration and play. → Let them develop their own interests. What’s ONE thing you’d take from Asian parenting and ONE thing from Western parenting? #parentingtips #toddlers #earlychildhood #raisingkids #creatorsearchinsights
