@b.rainbow2: I want to share my dad’s story because I believe it underlines the urgent need for stronger safeguarding systems within delivery companies. If better measures were in place to recognize concerns and intervene when needed, maybe fewer families would suffer the devastating loss of a loved one. There are real people and families affected by the growth and profits of these companies. This is our reality: while companies continue to thrive, families like mine are left grieving for those we've lost. | It’s clear that there should have been safeguarding through the system. 🥺 #foryoupage❤️❤️ #fyp #alcholawareness #losingaparent

i actually think alcohol should be banned from delivery services, along with tobacco/ vape.

If you have an addiction, you will find a way to get hold of your drug. The only person who can help an addict is themselves. Without needing to go into personal details, I know what I'm talking about.

banning being able to order alcohol on an app isn't going to save a single life he would have just gone to the shop and bought it if he couldn't use the app

What’s it got to do with the app? They’ll just get a taxi to the shop everyday instead? Are we going to stop people being able to have cigs delivered? What about unhealthy foods? Ridiculous idea

an alcoholic will get the drink by hook or crook whether via an app or going to the shops for it ...

I totally agree that uber is enabling alcoholics easy access to drink and that something should be put in place. On a positive note, uber hopefully reduces drink driving but I’m with you that no one should be left to drink themselves to death daily without question. Sorry for your loss x

They find a way. Even if they refused to deliver it he’d find a way. It’s an addiction.

While this is heartbreaking, we can’t control or take away someone’s life choices. Restricting things in this way will just make them go to other methods and more extremes to fill their addictions and ultimately the person is only going to get help when they want and fully commit to getting help. If they don’t want to chance then nothing is going to make that happen, they have to choose it for themselves.

I disagree. Doing so would encourage them to go to the shop - which they may have to drive to get to. Which will put others at risk if they do so drunk. More support for the condition, absolutely. But not this approach IMHO.

Sadly 99% of the comments on here have never watched a family member die of alcoholism. Totally support that more stringent interventions need to apply as it’s the most awful killer and thing to watch 😭

an alcoholic will get it by hook or by crook, its dangerous to stop someone from having alcohol, alcohol is the only addiction that can kill from withdrawal, addiction is hard, its painful, for everyone concerned, my heart aches for the loss of loved ones through this, recovery programmes need more funding, its being cut all the time 🥰❤️

i totally agree. I'm an alcoholic. It's a terrible illness and it almost killed me. Yes I sometimes miss it, but if I have one glass, its game over. Its a lifetime choice, but I have no choice. I'm so sorry to hear this about your Dad. My thoughts are with you ❤️

As a child of an alcoholic he died two years ago, he was offered help so times it’s easy to blame others than blame the person for not wanting to get the help in the first place, addiction is hard but they will always find a way to get the next hit, my dad didn’t know how to use apps but he could walk to the shops everyday to get it or to a bar etc it wasn’t my responsibility after years of trying to help him, sometimes sadly you have to get up and get on with the life you deserve because the first step is they have to want to help themselves even if it hurts to do it

It's worrying because we've always had very strict licensing laws surrounding the sale of alcohol, including not providing alcohol to those already too intoxicated. It's a face to face interaction at the checkout or the pub or the restaurant- a delivery driver doesnt have the power to restructure alcohol sales. As a recovering alcoholic, I think the delivery of booze via app like this should be banned, because it can't be supervised in the way it can be with other ways of selling alcohol. Unfortunately, blaming anyone but the drinker is misguided- we will always get it somehow, you wouldn't believe the lengths we go to!
