me and my family always eat cupcakes for the children who never made it home. my papa said in residential schools, children weren't allowed to have cake or cupcakes on their birthdays. so we honour them by eating cupcakes for them, keeping them in our hearts and listening to my papa. because he is a residential school survivor

This day comes every year and I’m always devastated to remember that I don’t own a single lick of orange in my wardrobe as soon as I leave the house

I’m so happy that resident schools are being talked about. I never see people discuss how horrendously native people are treated and still systemically oppressed, and I’m so glad that you’re willing to use your platform to speak out.

Wow, this is such a saddening story. I think people stepping up is absolutely beautiful and admirable. I’m not exactly sure what indigenous means, but I hope they make it out safe and know all of our love is out to them.

Thank you for making this video 🥰 with the amount of denialisim going on we, the indigenous community need as much support from the rest of you with empathetic hearts 🥺🧡 My father, Kukoms (grandma), Mushoms (grandpa), and Chapons (great grandparent) on both sides of my family all attended residential school, my mom and her kids generation is the first to not attend, my mom was young when she had us she started at 15 and got her tubes tied at 22, my dad was older and didnt have a family to support him so he was in residential schools growing up. My whole family is heavily impacted by the effects those hell holes left us. Majority of my family are addicts who struggle so much with mental health. ☹️My mom is the first woman on her side of the family not to be a prostitute at some point in her life. My Chapon was trafficked by her own father before she attended schools where she got abused by other classmates, then when she got released she got picked up at a restaurant by who would be my great grandfather. She would marry him and bare my kukoms and mushoms. she was 9 when she met him and married him. he was in his late 20s. my family has been through so much BECAUSE of those "schools" WE need to be recognized more and our experiences need to be seen. I HATE people who try deny that those schools even happened when I see the living proof real and alive in all of my family members everyday. my family has a documentary actually that explains more of what my kukom (moms mom) went through and my chapon (my kukoms mom) its called Donna's story its on youtube for free ! my older brother gets born in it at the end LOL
