Well I’m sitting in my Ute watching TikTok while the drillers do all the hard work. Then I log the core, take some pictures and samples and then get back in the Ute to argue on reddit

As a senior mine geo I worked 14 hour days. Start at 6. Set up the blast hole drilling and sampling for the day. Reviewed and designed the ore block boundaries for the flitch and go and mark them out. Sampled trenches and traverses across the marked ore blocks. Supervised and checked the waste and ore digging , the ROM pad stockpiles and checked the ore faces during the digging team smoke and breaks between ore haulage. Manage the road trains hauling from the ROM to the plant 50kms away. Battled the enviros with dust from road trains on the main road. Ran the XRF over various samples and faces. Checked and added up all ore hauled to the ROM and plant daily and reconciliation with the ore blocks. Sample and test the crushed stockpiles at the mill. Run the daily production meeting daily. Be either loved or hated by executives, enviros and digging teams. Organise and manage the diamond drill rig adding to resources and mine life. Writing technical, safety and regulator reports. Map the faces at the end of the day after the dig team finishes. Collect a few more rocks. Oh it now dark. Lock up the offices and crib roon and gates. Drive back to camp and arrive 15 minutes before the mess closes. Shower and relax and sleep by 10pm. Up again at 4.30 the next morning.

dont get me wrong i think this about alot of roles in mining. but not only do geos look at rocks and determine where the ore body sits and reviews all the samples taken on the quality of ore but I have called geos out before to come check wall integrity before aswell.

they locate the material in the ground sp that we can drill / blast / dig it out so then you'll have a job pretty simple

they find where the gold is so underground can be expanded in that direction/ on surface find where new gold locations may be so a new pit can be made for everyone to work in 😐 I don't know why people complain about them so much
