@beyondthecaseofficial: Derek Rosa was 13 when he killed his mother, Irina Garcia, in their Hialeah, Florida, apartment in October 2023. Authorities said he stabbed her 46 times while she slept. His newborn half-sister was in a crib nearby and was unharmed. Derek then called 911, admitted what he had done, and surrendered to police. The case drew attention partly because Derek had been described as an honor roll student with no known history of mental illness. Prosecutors alleged an interest in the Friday the 13th character Jason Voorhees was a motive, but I’d be careful presenting that as a proven explanation for why he killed her. His defense also challenged whether he understood his right to remain silent when he confessed. Where the case stands: On January 16, 2026, just before his trial, Derek pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison followed by 20 years of probation, with credit for time already served. In court, he said, “I’m sorry.” #derekrosa #TrueCrime #TrueCrimeTok #crimejunkie #truestory
