Private equity taking over vetrinarian clinics is killing me. The cost of vet services has quadrupled in the last 10 years. Politics needs to step in and put the hammer down on private equity.

And before anybody says “don’t get pets if you can’t afford them,” life circumstances change. I was not unemployed nor was I a widow when I got my dogs eight years ago.

I called a food pantry in my neighborhood and asked if they took dog / cat food and they told me no. If they can’t feed themselves they shouldn’t have pets. I was shocked!

Thank you! I have offended Texas animal rescuers over and over again because I tell them to stop voting for Republicans. That is all.

I’m in debt for the first time in my life, but I’m still fostering puppies from the euthanasia list cuz I can’t handle knowing that if I say “no” they will get euthanized. Current foster puppy (her sister didn’t want to take a picture lol). I’m so happy for NYC and hope this can motivate other mayors to care.

Me and my husband were essentially deported from the US and had it not been for friends and family, I have no idea how we could have afforded to take our dog with us. I was considering going into bankruptcy. It’s brutal and evil and cruel.

It’s not just lack of food. Advocate for local homeless or low income government services to allow pets when it comes to helping people!! My biggest struggle when I became homeless was the fact I had a cat. I spent two months homeless when I could have had a house in a week if I didn’t have a pet. I also would not still be here if I had to surrender her!!!!!! Policy changes allow those who have housing insecurity to keep their pets!! Thank you Isabel. This is huge. 💚

Animal welfare worker here, our municipal county shelter offers a community outreach program called the Safety Net Program. We offer up to 90 days of free fostering for owners facing medical, mental health, and housing crisis to try to help keep owned animals out of shelters. There's an application process and part of the contract is agreeing to allowing our clinic spay and neuter their pets (free of charge). Right now we have a backlog of people waiting because of need in our community and a lack of fosters but to date we have kept over 500 families together

In Missouri we voted through a bill for animal welfare in 2011 and republican politicians somehow blocked it. It still pisses me off
