@billy.the.bernese: Why buy a slow feeder when the garden can do the job? 😂🌱 One of the easiest ways we make Billy’s meals more enriching is literally just throwing his kibble across the grass and letting him sniff it out. Depending on how widely we scatter it, this can turn a bowl of food he’d finish pretty quickly into 10+ minutes of sniffing, searching and working for his dinner. It gives him a bit of variety, uses his nose and naturally slows the whole meal down. Billy is currently eating IAMS Large Breed Puppy food. It’s the food he came to us eating, and because he’s going to be such a big dog, we wanted to keep him on a puppy food formulated specifically for larger breeds while he’s growing. We may switch eventually, but for now it works well for him. We’re also quite conscious of how quickly Billy eats. Large, deep-chested breeds like Bernese Mountain Dogs can be at greater risk of bloat/GDV, so although no feeding method can prevent it, we try to avoid him absolutely inhaling his meals.
