@soundmoney_coach: A major South African digital bank has joined the growing coalition challenging aspects of the proposed crypto-asset cross-border rules. GoTyme says crypto should be regulated, but argues regulation should focus on the activity and its risks—not simply the technology being used. The bigger question is whether regulation will bring digital-asset activity into a transparent, regulated financial system—or unintentionally push some activity toward offshore platforms and less visible channels. With AI, blockchain and tokenisation reshaping global finance, South Africa’s regulatory choices could have implications far beyond crypto. The rules are still being considered, so this conversation matters now. Without strict regulations the system will be used as a platform for money laundering, untraceable transactions and funds. It’s a big concern for financial institutions - they will slowly lose business.
