The hospital hallway seemed to dissolve around them, the smell of antiseptic giving way to scent of rain lingering on Bam’s clothes. Bam’s body trembled, bandaged palms pressing into the fabric of Oom’s clothes. The hospital hallway seemed to dissolve around them, the smell of antiseptic giving way to scent of rain lingering on Bam’s clothes. Bam’s body trembled, bandaged palms pressing into the fabric of Oom’s clothes. She clutched Oom so tightly that the breathless panic in her chest only gradually began to ease, replaced by the warm reality of Oom breathing beneath her touch. "I thought" Bam's voice cracked, thick with tears, buried deep in the curve of Oom’s neck. "I thought I lost you." Oom stood frozen for a second, eyes softening into infinite tenderness. Ignoring the throb in her forehead and the dull ache along her scraped knees, uninjured left arm wrapped firmly around Bam’s waist. She pulled the taller woman as close as the sling on her right arm would allow, resting her chin lightly on Bam's trembling shoulder. "I'm sorry, Bam," Oom voice gentle and soothing, repeating the words like a lullaby over the ER. "I'm so sorry I frightened you. The truck skidded. I tried to swerve, but the side was struck. My phone was smashed in the console, so I couldn't text you." The flustered nurse behind Oom cleared her throat, stepping forward with a small medical tray. "Excuse me, ma'am. I know it's a touching moment, but Miss Eisaya still needs her head injury double-checked before we can even discuss discharge." Bam reluctantly pulled back, though her bandaged hand remained firmly clasped with Oom’s left hand as they guided her back into an examination room. Inside, Oom sat on the edge of the bed while the nurse busied herself adjusting the clean white gauze around Oom’s forehead, checking the minor wound one last time. Completely calmed down, Bam looked entirely like her usual composed, stoic self, though her eyes remained fixed on Oom. "Are you in pain anywhere else? Are you really okay, Oom?" Bam stepping closer to gently take Oom's uninjured hand while the nurse attended to her forehead. "Tell me if anything hurts." "I'm okay, Bam, really," Oom murmured, looking up at her with soft eyes. "Just a bit sore." "Is the head injury deep?" Bam asked the nurse, tone measured and calm. "Does she need a CT scan? What about the scrapes on her knees and legs, did you sanitize them properly?" "It's just a superficial scrape on her forehead, ma'am, no concussion symptoms," the nurse answered clearly. "And her knees are cleaned and wrapped. She's very lucky." As the nurse carefully angled Oom's head to adjust the dressing, she looked right at Bam and spoke up naturally, not even trying to lower her voice. "You know, she was practically begging us to speed up the check-up two minutes ago. She ran right past us because she insisted she needed to deliver her wife's lunch before it got cold." Bam turned her gaze sharply toward Oom, glaring at her with a stern look. "Nurse!" Oom squeaked, face burning bright red. "I'm just stating facts," the nurse chuckled, stepping back as she handed over the discharge papers. "She was very persistent about that lunch." Bam’s eyes watered slightly at the nurse's words, a soft swell of emotion crashing beneath her stoic exterior. Yet, looking at Oom, now pouting deeply, ears bright red and her eyes stubbornly fixed on her own lap, utterly unable to meet Bam's gaze. "And her arm?" Bam asked the nurse, her voice softening slightly. "Is the sprain severe?" "Just a minor wrist strain from holding the wheel," the nurse reassured smoothly. "Keep the sling on for a few days, and she'll be completely fine." "Thank you," Bam said, taking the papers. As they walked out to the car, Bam gently kept one arm anchored around Oom's waist, supporting her weight as they moved through the corridor. Oom winced slightly with every few steps, the fresh scrapes on her knees and legs making her stumble. Holding on to Bam, Oom kept her head low, pout lingering as she mumbled. "You don't have to worry so much, Bam. I can take care of myself. I can just call a driver to take me back to the villa." "No." #oomeisaya #bamsaralee #oombam
