As a postpartum doula/night nanny, ALL OF THIS!! The American version of motherhood is so stupidly isolating!! Postpartum moms are supposed to have people to help take care of them and their new babies!! Thank you for prioritizing your well being!

Outsourcing cooking and cleaning and life admin is also an option. I thought I’d want nannies but when it came down to hiring one, I didn’t. I found outsourcing all the other stuff was the way to making motherhood simple and easy for me.

I’m literally only thriving and loving motherhood because I have the ability to outsource things to make my life easier like a cleaner etc, and I feel zero guilt about it!

Mind you this mother to martyr pipeline is something we've self-imposed in this country. Not like this at all in other cultures

And it's not only human help: its even about being able to afford conveniences such as food delivery, buying a nice stroller, swing, bouncer, bottle cleaner... Anything that makes life more convenient. You can also afford to have a second car so you can go out for your mental health when your husband is working, a house that can accommodate a room for you to sit with a crying baby and not wake the rest of the family... There are a whole host of things that would have made motherhood so much easier for me.

I survived motherhood without external help and at the end my nervous system broke and I am now on antidepressants. The crazy thing is I could pay for help, but I just chose to play hero….

The patriarchy conditioned society to believe that women are here to serve and fulfill others lives, that struggle makes us resilient, and silent competition for “ most sacrifice” is normal. When in reality, women thrive in community, women multiply what’s given, but women need rest and self fulfillment to be happy mother and raise happy kids.

the societal expectation to mother in solitude is crazy to me. for thousands of years humans have mothered in community!! help should be seen as normal!!!

Motherhood should never be the struggle Olympics.

I've known since my 20s I have 0 interest in proving how resilient I am😂 if a night nurse and housekeeper can't be afforded for at least the 6 months I'm not interested
