The thing that annoys me is that in the comics, it’s not being fearless that makes you qualified to be a Green Lantern. It’s having the will to overcome fear. It’s a big difference and I don’t know why the show keeps insisting on this lack of fear BS.

A powerful detail I loved was seeing how the line of William Tell bullet holes moved vertically up the wall, showing years of abuse as John grew. It's another perversion of normal childhood things, like measuring how much you've grown.

Another thing about the mentality of "teaching kids to be strong/fearless" is that it doesn't erase fear, it just changes it from fear of the dangerous situation they are being put in to fear of disappointing the parents who are pushing their expectations on them

I don’t why it’s being equated to a racial issue either. The Green Lantern Corp whole thing is accepting anybody so long as they have willpower. If they’ll recruit a living planet they will take anyone. Honestly the guardians will find our petty racism absurd, “hey other human, I hate you because you’re a slightly different color.”
