@begiantca: What if your home was heated by human sewage? Every time someone runs a tap, dishwasher, washing machine, or yes, even flushes the toilet we're sending heat straight down the drain, so why not use it? In Vancouver, the under- construction Sen̓áḵw development project by the Squamish Nation will tap into a nearby sewer line to provide carbon-free heating and cooling for about 6,000 residents. While the heat generated by sewage is a simple byproduct of waste, the process was anything but straightforward. It required drilling into an active, highly pressurized main, all without interrupting municipal services. Such systems are not cheap: Sen̓áḵw’s $30-million district energy system represents a substantial investment, but it’s designed to yield long-term benefits. With most of the progress happening out of the public eye, the scale of potential is easy to miss. One of Canada’s biggest wastewater energy-transfer systems, in fact, has quietly taken shape beneath University Health Network’s (UHN) Toronto Western Hospital. Even though the upfront costs of waste and sewage heat recovery remain substantial, the potential for cheaper energy once installed – and zero-carbon energy at that – could be well worth it. 🚽🚿🚰 #cleanenergy #SustainableEnergy #Sustainability

That's brilliant. Is there a way to add this kind of system to residential single family home clients or is this something that needs to be done on a larger scale to be efficient?
Gotta love systems that reuse or upcycle waste or discarded materials.

What if each house could treat its own sewage?

Besides the high installation cost, these new heating systems are also expensive to maintain. Not many technicians know how to repair them, and parts are harder to find, making both labour and repairs more expensive. I thought these systems would save me money on energy bills, but instead, I’m spending more on maintenance. So much for saving money!

Agree with the video, but using Blatchford as an example, which has made no progress in its development and has been sitting almost entirely unbuilt for at least a decade.

It's really fucking hilarious that people actually believe that that is possible. Why the fuck would you even want to do that? It would literally make your place smell like shit. It'd be like living in india or palestine
