You need to install them with a washer bolted to the pin so it sits right

I can appreciate a man and company that man’s up to a mistake and cover it. This is a lost principle of this country. Most companies look for any excuse to not cover their product

looks to me like the bore in the gear is too deep with no shims the bearing clearance is controlled by shoulder of the pin to cone face on one side and the carrier housing to cone face on the other side THEN the depth of the bore to shoulder on gear (if the gear has an internal step in it )control the cup location.i agree with what the guy said about pressing the pin in the other direction I sometimes do that putting gear boxes with tapered roller bearings in.

you said you have done a bunch of these. how have you been doing all of these without measuring that depth to make sure it's correct. so you have been doing them all wrong.

Water is not going to get in from the Axle shaft seal. That Axle shaft seal has oil on both sides.

+/-.02 might be ok with a caliper but +/-.002 a depth mic would be way more accurate

i bet it started making noise because warranty about out. i fixed a torque converter overheating by adjusting the decellerator peddle because it had converter in stall 1400 rpm while they were hooking the loggs.

Measure the depth of the hole and compare to the length of the pin. You may just be able to press it in until it stops.

Check the spin of the bearing as you go! You will feel it stiffen up….
