@jasondoroughauthor: Killing a fan favorite is hard on readers, and it is just as hard on the author. I do not give characters plot armor, but I also do not kill them for shock. If they serve the story better alive, they stay. When someone has to go, it is because the loss is what the story needs, and then I still have to live with the look on a reader’s face at a signing. #WritingTips #BookTok #WritersOfTikTok #CharacterDevelopment #WritingCraft
“Damn, I really feel bad for my main character, I love him a lot, and I wish he could be happy, and live a normal life.” Proceeds to put him through an absolute gauntlet 😭

Raven Elliot O’Connor :
One of my voice actors suggested I kill their character later in the series, even laid out a way it could happen, and I LOVED it but also was a little teary-eyed thinking about it 😭 I always cry writing death scenes

Every major character death has been preceded by a deep breath, trying not to cry, and convincing my brain to not find a way to have them survive

I agree. Zero jokes about it from me. Their end is shocking, but it has to be once they served their purpose. Sometimes that purpose is sacrifice
