Finally, someone else who didn't like Pride and Prejudice; I love a lot of classics, but that bored me.

Lmao pride and prejudice has this one review that cracks me up which is like “this is just people going to other peoples houses”. I personally love it, and collect a bunch of different editions of it but it sort of is just people going to other peoples houses 😂

as a teacher of AP Lit, I would like argue that F451 and 1984 are very different messages and very different dystopias. 1984 the government takes power for power’s sake and controls society bc it can, whereas in F451 the PEOPLE decide to stop reading bc everyone compares themself to others and feels too many emotions. The public does it to themself. So relevant today. Worth another read through that lens. The endings being so different in tone tell you everything you need to know. 1984, death is the only hope, life is worthless. 451- humanity can change if they want to

I feel like classics aren’t supposed to be a “recommendation” like it’s the latest dragon riding, human loving fae romantasy making the booktok rounds though Like… we don’t read Anna Karenina because we like hearing about the countryside for 3/4 of the book, or War and Peace because we enjoy challenging our ability to remember names 💀 We read the classics because they expand our cultural capital and our deep thinking babes.

F451 is better than 1984. It’s social commentary is more prescient and the pacing is way better. Prose is better as well.
