I had an appointment that honestly had me panicking inside. I had no clue what I was going to do or how I was going to do it. She was booked in for just a top-up colour, which basically means a small refresh on hair that’s already been coloured recently. But this hair had not been touched in over a year and a half. There were five different bands of colour through her hair, and the photo she showed me was a full transformation. The kind of transformation that would normally take me an entire day. On top of that, her individual strands were very fine and very delicate. If I had bleached everything to match that photo, over time her hair would have weakened, lost its strength, and it would have felt tired and dry. I just couldn’t do that to her hair. So there I was, thinking, stressing, worrying, because she had travelled five hours to come and see me and it would take her five hours to get home. I didn’t want to let her down. In the end, I just said to her, “Will you trust me to decide what I’m going to do? I promise I’ll make it look beautiful. And if you want to go lighter in the future, we’ll create an action plan to do it safely.” She agreed. So I went for it. I coloured every single inch of her hair with multiple tones and colours, and then toned everything again after. I definitely ran over time, of course I did, but I still managed to do it in around half the time I normally would by going fully into creative mode and trusting my instincts. And that is what I love about hairdressing. When you have the fundamentals, the skill and the understanding of hair, you can be creative and problem-solve on the spot. She absolutely loved it. It looked beautiful. The tone, the softness, the shape, the weight removed. Her curls came back to life. And yes, I used everything in the Fine Curly Hair Kit to get her hair looking this good. #curlspecialist #curlyhairtransformation #finecurls #bristolhair #curlsalon
