Crate training starts before your puppy ever comes home. 🤎 At around 6 weeks old, we begin introducing our puppies to the crate by having them spend short periods of time inside with a buddy. This gives them a chance to learn that the crate is a safe, comfortable place without immediately asking them to be completely alone. As they become more confident, we gradually transition them into individual crates. By the time our puppies go home, they’re typically spending around 3–4 hours at a time during the day or night in their own crate. Our goal isn’t to send home a puppy who is perfectly crate trained at 8 weeks old—that would be a pretty big expectation for a baby! Instead, we want the crate to already be familiar. They’ve practiced settling, being separated from their littermates, and learning that alone time is safe. That foundation can make the transition into your home so much easier. But even with all that preparation, the first few nights can still be hard. Your puppy has just left their mom, littermates, familiar smells, sounds, and routine all at once. Some crying or protesting is completely normal. We give them the head start. You’ll continue building on it at home with patience, consistency, and lots of positive experiences. 🤍🐾 #bernedoodle #minibernedoodle #familydog #nonsheddingdogs #doodle
