People are saying the railing is on the other side but don’t realize that walking the “wrong” way down can be disorienting and can feel unsafe if we have normalized that the flow of traffic goes one way

In Germany most of the time you have the handrail on one side and most of the time it is the side you are walking to. Like you go down stairs that are left, down, left, down so it is on the left side. Don’t know if this is understandable but maybe it is something you can consider while searching

That's the situation in a lot of buildings in Germany. The apartment complex I live in only has a handrail on one side of the stairs, usually the one without a wall. For the elderly people and me who use a cane that's always a struggle.
