@sciencefunn: What if Mars had oceans like Earth? If about 71% of Mars were covered in water, the same percentage as Earth, its modern landscape could look something like this. The huge northern lowlands would fill first, leaving the higher southern regions as vast continents and islands. This image is only a hypothetical flood map, though. Scientists do have strong evidence that ancient Mars once had rivers, lakes, deltas, and possibly a large northern ocean, but probably not a lush green world exactly like this. Billions of years ago, Mars may have been much wetter, warmer, and more Earth-like than the cold desert planet we know today. We share interesting science content.
