@hermoneymastery: Replying to @Snow White month ahead is a longer term goal after you’re stable… but to get stable, here’s what you need to do. 💕 #Budgeting #budgetingforbeginners #budget #budgetingtiktok #budgetplanner
I was out of work for a year and very depressed and got into a load of debt (£25k) and was about 3 months behind on all bills including mortgage- I then found a job. Once I had received 1 paycheque I went through everything and called everyone to establish minimum payments to get back on track - I incorporated cash envelopes for groceries etc and weekly cash payments and would take that out when I got paid everything left went to bills - for the first few months I had less that £10.00 left. I got a job 2nd job (paid into a seperate account) which was weekend work - some months they only needed me 1 day of the month some it would be every weekend day. I started saving money - it was literally the penny saver challenge, digging out the coins left at the end of the week - in 1 year I was able to pay off over £8k and stop the weekend work (tbf it did nearly kill me - during summer 2 years ago I worked over 100 days non stop) but it gave me breathing room. I still don’t have a month ahead account or a savings monthly goal - I just keep doing penny saver, tge £2.00 challenge and maybe a £5 challenge. But it has totally saved me - yes I am still living month to month but no more stress. I stick to the cash envelopes and what isn’t spent weekly goes towards savings goals - today I am paying off a £1200 left on my loan and will move that monthly payment to the last remaining debt. I know this is different to the video but it’s what worked for me when I literally had pennies - like what would that do! But it really did work - I was a tiny bit away from finishing that goal and the washing machine broke - it was depressing and annoying but I was able to get a new one without adding to debt - yes it wiped me out but I started again. Honestly start with the pennies - it’s surprising how quickly they build up and do it weekly cause the dopamine hit of replenishing tour weekly cash envelopes and seeing crossing off pennies in a jar helps a massive amount mentally

I wasn’t behind because I didn’t have the money, I was behind because I didn’t have a system that worked for me. Ever since I started budgeting, I haven’t been late on anything. I actually have money left over to save, and I’m even paying my bills ahead of time now.

My problem is once I pay my bills - I either can make sure I have what I need to live, along w my dog or be broke and pay what’s leftover to debt.

I called all my credit card holders and had my due date put towards the end of month date.. 28th and what a game changer for me. I couldn't handle all due dates all over the place each month.

You’re advice is Spott on I have been attempting to pay off debt and it seems like every time I get close something unexpected comes up and the money that was gonna go towards paying off that debt now has to get rerouted to an unexpected expense and I like you have done it so many times that it is exhausting because I had no buffer built in my system. Just wanted to concur.
