If you’re ever in Boston I highly recommend going to the ISGM! It’s truly an incredibly unique place. And the frames from the stolen artwork are still on display, just as the thieves left them!

I see your Vermeer and I raise you the missing Jan Van Eyck panel of the Ghent altarpiece! Painted in the 1400s and stolen in the 1930s and never recovered. The man who supposedly stole it left a series of incomprehensible clues before dying and no one can solve them or find the missing panel.

Back in the 2000s a person came forward and claimed the thieves had stored the paintings improperly and they were destroyed by dampness and mold. They’re gone.
