The thing people do not understand is that you need to have the fans to get a higher-value contract from sponsors. Unfortunately, City don’t have that type of fan worldwide; to date, they don’t have such a fanbase that will buy. How on earth would a company give you a contract worth 100m and you can’t generate more than 10m for them? To date, City cannot generate a higher income unless they inflate it. This is City’s reality. Even though City have won many trophies over the past few years, that still hasn’t given them that fanbase-e.g., Leicester City, who won the EPL a few years back 2015/16. They couldn’t sustain it the following season; they had to balance their books (giving players improved contracts), so they had to sell some of their key players to survive FFP rules. Newcastle was in a better position before the Saudi prince took over, and to date Newcastle has more fans than City. Newcastle was more relevant than City, yet they can’t spend because of FFP. Newcastle is currently not a selling club, but they had to sell some of their key players to balance the books as well. Unfortunately for City, they inflated their income as much as possible to beat the system. Newcastle is currently richer than any club on earth but they can’t use the money, you think they’re happy about it ? How would Newcastle feel? Many clubs would feel hurt, people don’t really getting the length of what City did. THAT IS A SHAM.
