My mom loves bonne maman jam. Last year I found out she had never had an advent calendar of her own. So I bought her the bonne maman one. She and my stepdad had so much fun trying them

Okay hear me out. All year long I buy myself little treats like lip glosses, body butter, a new tea etc and put it in a basket maybe about $150 worth and then I wrap them and grab one at random each day. MAKE YOUR OWN ADVENT CALENDAR ITS AWESOME and you forget what you’ve purchased in march!

tea advent calendars are the best, they provide the excitement and the ritual as well

I bought a wooden haunted house Halloween advent calendar and spent hours painting it (which I enjoyed) then, I filled each drawer with a different lip combo that I already owned to make myself use all the lipsticks I have sitting around [Tears of joy] it was actually really fun.

The cheap chocolate calendars with very old looking Christmas paintings do the best job tbh. Always gives me that Christmas feeling

I took the money that one would have cost me then bought stuff for myself that I actually wanted/needed and I’ll pack it in DIY bags for me to open in December.

I totally agree for things like cosmetics and skincare. But hear me out...I am single and live alone. Family isn't local. So the only way I get surprises for Christmas is with mystery bundles and advent calendars. I love ones for food or tea though, because it let's me try a flavor I wouldn't necessarily want to buy a full size/box/jar of. And I get the element of surprise. For some people, the advent calendar is the only way they will experience the surprise gifts.

I get art advent calendars now, things with stationary, markers, craft supplies, etc. far more rewarding than 50% of mini products I’ll never use

Honestly those snack advent calendars are always the best. Even the ones you don’t really like, you can still gift to friends or family
