@drcrumbylaw: Body cameras are supposed to protect both the public and law enforcement. So what happens when that video mysteriously goes missing? Missing or "malfunctioning" camera footage is a massive legal issue because that video could prove your innocence or expose false allegations. #DanielCrumbyLaw #CriminalDefense #LegalTips #GeorgiaLawyer #LegalAdvice
why do they also get to redact and mute the audio as well

I’d like doctors, attorneys, ac guys, plumbers, insurance and mechanics to wear body cameras.

It is equipment. Sometimes it will malfunction. Especially when thousands wear them. This is crazy to think they don’t malfunction

Sooo for the first 110 years of law enforcement, and probably the first 30 years of your career when there were no Body Cams, what then?

To be fair, I’ve used the restroom and forgot to turn my BC back on….. normally notice and activate it at some point during the stop, but never intentionally made a stop with it off unless it died.

This happens all the time though. It can be wrong but the justice system does nothing to actually hold them accountable. I've never had a run in with law, but I've never trusted our country's justice system. It's a joke.

we had l3 cameras when we first got bwc's and they were so trashy. it was 50/50 if they actually worked and if they did work every so often the video file would be corrupted and just have audio with green and black lines going vertical on the screen. we fought with l3 for a while about them before dropping them and going to axon. axon has been great and aside from officers being slow to label their stuff it works great. my only complaint is that alot of their cool features are subscription based we can't afford and the magnetic body camera mounts. as soon as you get in a fight, that camera just flys off. the molle mounted ones are great and mine never has come off.

Depends on the circumstances. Cops are humans, sometimes they forget to turn it on at the beginning of shift. For instance, cop gets a traffic stop 2 minutes into shift 1 mile from his house, very easy to see the hangup. Or the cams die, did the traffic stop start at the end of shift?

anytime that camera is off. then the court should believe anything the defendant says. the cop is not reliable. why would you have the camera off.

happens all the time. juries should acquit whenever the footage goes missing, 100% of the time

This is why we insist we record all officer interactions on our own phones. Police body cams can suddenly "disappear."

There also should be no mute button and the officer shouldn’t be able to turn it off. That feature should be done by someone else remotely

Ghostwat :
Body cams should not have the ability to be able to be turned off until it’s docked in the charging station after shift! And they should have an alarm if the view is obstructed or removed and should send notifications when it happens! Should also have night vision capabilities! We have the technology but then the cops wouldn’t have a way to commit crimes against children and woman and minorities!

Then why do attorneys fight so hard to get body cam footage suppressed claiming it’s too damming to client?

Cops know just when to turn them off or angle them away from their excessive force.
