@andrew.joseph.stewart: St. Paisios the Athonite “You pray little and complain a lot. You swallow the poison hoping it will taste like happiness. You want God as a helper, not as your Master. You choose what kills you because it relieves you for a moment. If you feed your body and starve your soul, don’t be surprised if you become an animal. Lust is a promise of warmth that leaves the heart cold. When a man becomes a slave to a substance, he loses his inner royalty. God’s mercy is immense, but the time for repentance is short; choose now before it is too late.” — St. Paisios the Athonite Sources: Spiritual Counsels, Vol. I: With Pain and Love for Contemporary Man — Part One, “Sin and the Devil,” Chapter One: “It Is Fashionable to Sin”; section “Separation From God Is Hell.” Spiritual Counsels, Vol. IV: Family Life — teaching on grumbling and doxology.
