@austintingley: umich paused its plan to make first-semester LSA transcripts pass/no credit starting in fall 2027… but was the idea actually that crazy? #umich #college #universityofmichigan #annarbor
I’m in my first year and honestly my first year at uoft isn’t bad. I kinda feel like my gpa this year MAY (potentially) be better than future years lol. I pray this isn’t true

would you actually learn more if you weren’t worried about protecting your GPA?

The reason it sucked it there was no opt-out, for example for law school apps your GPA is extremely valuable and your first semester classes which are easy As for many wouldn’t be recorded and also makes every future less-than-stellar grade weigh more on your GPA

As a 3 year college student studying education. GPAs shouldnt really be a thing. Like there is so much more than a grade on a test or two (which is what a lot of final geades in college are based on). A grade is a subjective thing that we give value...

GPAs shouldn’t even be a thing. Everyone should just try their best and have fun.

mit does it because their classes are extremely hard and those students don’t need to rely on gpa as a way to differentiate themselves in job/grad school applications but as a umich student I don’t think the difficulty especially for freshman year warrants that and it’s great to get a semester or two of high grades before your classes get super hard

Lowkey it really just depends on your work ethic and time management. I had 15 credit hours first semester and got a 4.0

I need my first semester. Intro classes, cal 1, and gen Ed’s are good to build your Goa when you have a hard major
