@whynotnatural_us: You were excited to start taking magnesium, but as time went by, you felt like it wasn't helping so now that jar sits unused collecting dust somewhere. I've had people message me about this often, so I thought I'd list the most common mistakes I see people make, so you won't end up giving up and missing out on the benefits. Mistake 1: Not staying properly hydrated. Hydration is good for so many things I won't get into right now, but for magnesium specifically, it matters because your body needs water to absorb minerals properly. If you're not drinking enough throughout the day, magnesium can't absorb efficiently. Mistake 2: Taking it close to drinking coffee or tea. Both interfere with magnesium absorption. So take magnesium at a different time of day. Mistake 3: Taking magnesium with soda or drinks containing phosphoric acid. You might think, oh that's not me, I don't drink soda. But know that even drinks marketed as healthy like some sports drinks, iced teas, craft lemonades and flavored waters can contain phosphoric acid that interferes with magnesium absorption. Avoid these when taking your supplement. Mistake 4: Taking magnesium without food, or with a high-fiber meal. And remember that having some carbs and protein in a meal can enhance magnesium uptake, whereas a very fiber-rich meal close to taking magnesium can reduce its absorption. Mistake 5: Taking it too close to calcium, zinc, or iron supplements. These minerals compete for absorption. That also includes multivitamins, so space your magnesium a few hours apart. Mistake 6: Expecting results immediately. It can take time for magnesium levels to start increasing. Don't give up too soon. Of course, there is also the issue that you might me taking the wrong kind of magnesium for the effects you are looking for. So check out my reel on which type of magnesium you should take for which issue. ____ The information provided in this post is for informational purposes only and is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
