@denniscarradinjr: Ball busting? Absolutely. Fat shaming and calling EMS stupid? Explain the punchline. If you need to stand on an EMT to feel taller, your credentials aren’t what need work. 🚑🎤 Where do YOU draw the line between humor and disrespect? #EMS #FirstResponders #Paramedic #NursesOfTikTok #HealthcareWorkers
There's a trickle down happening everywhere. DO/MD's look down on residents/interns who look down on RN's who look down on LPN's who look down on CNA's who look down who look down on medics who down on EMT'S. Not everyone does it, but it happens a lot. We all need to better ✌️

I once had an ER nurse with 25 years experience tell me she could never do my job and she has so much respect for first responders. when I chuckled but I sincerely did not believe her statement, she doubled down and followed thru with her explanation that she could never handle the anxiety of being first on scene. i felt so seen for a moment

They do the same crap to those of us in military healthcare. No, we don’t learn extensive nursing skills in school so a lot of our training is OJT, but we learn a broader range of medicine and healthcare in a fraction of the time and our scope of practice is wider. I’ve had multiple arguments with alleged nurses on here because they don’t believe me when I tell them medics and Corpsmen are sometimes the PA or the doctor in a scenario. Of course I’m lying because “that’s illegal” and of course the military doesn’t have different rules and regulations when it comes to certain aspects of patient care 🤦🏼♀️

I’ve been a nurse over 30 years and you hit the nail on the head there are an abundance of nurses with easily wounded egos.

Spent nearly 40 years in two jobs that are the least respected and probably the most important jobs out there....law enforcement and EMS. I've heard it all.

true story. healthcare is a meat grinder, and we are the meat. I've been very disappointed in the behaviors exhibited by my colleagues over the last few years. we're supposed to be professionals. after listening to nurses and doctors say theyd harm a patient with differing political views, just on the basis of those views, i am no longer shocked at anything my colleagues may say. after reading pages upon pages of medical professionals celebrating murder, i no longer believe their hearts are in the right place. just because you wear the credentials, you are not necessarily a good person. too many of us are not. too many of us are all to eager to tear other people down. is it the lure of internet cred that makes people say these things? i know we're stressed out, burnt out and abused in this industry but that's no excuse to pay the damage forward. and i know the likes and views and follows are pure dopamine, but come on! dark humor and a little goodnatured ballbusting, yeah, that's fine. we have a long glorious history of coping with the hellscape of modern healthcare by using that dark commeraderie. i love that we pick and kid each other and have a good laugh. an inappropriate joke at the right moment can defuse a tense situation in seconds. we need that. we see horrible shit. all. the. time. do we really need to add more? sometimes, you gotta roll it back & check yourself.

I agree with almost everything that you have said in this video. The only exception I have with it is if, as a first responder, you are too out of shape to respond appropriately in an emergency or are unable to execute the physical portions of our profession for the majority of your patient population without taking another crew (whether that be a fire crew, another ambulance, etc…) out of service there should be some institutional shame, coupled with an increase in support and potentially counseling. FD and LEO have mandatory physical standards for a reason…and it’s not just for the calendar sales. I say that as an EMT that could stand to lose more than a few more pounds. Our patients and our coworkers deserve our best, and a physical inability to provide that is detrimental to morale, clinical excellence, and our own health.
