@jasenwrites: I am honestly appalled by what happened in the recent Cornell rape case. And before anyone asks why I am speaking about it again (because I already did). When I spoke on TikTok about the James incident and called out how the narrative of rape incident has been presented in his statement, I got bashed for speaking up (one told me bo*ng ko for this one. Pero so far mao rato ang personal attack man nuon. Others were focus on saying tungod sa ka clingy sa babae deserve rapud niya). And the saddest part? Some of the people supporting that narrative were women. But let me make this clear: I am not one of those 57 men who knew something was wrong in Cornell and chose to say nothing, nor someone who will stay quiet just because speaking up makes people uncomfortable. So I will speak again. Because where did we get this idea that a woman has to be a Maria Clara before we call her a victim? Na kailangan niya maging very “good girl” para mu empathize ta? Why do we need to know how she dressed, how many people she slept with, whether she drank, whether she went to a party, whether she had a “good moral life” before we decide whether what happened to her was wrong? Why are we still asking what kind of woman she was instead of asking what the people who violated her did? A woman’s worth does not determine whether she can be raped. Her sexual history does not determine whether she can consent. Her clothes do not determine whether she can consent. Alcohol does not magically turn “yes” into permanent consent! And being imperfect does not make someone deserving of violence. We need to stop creating this imaginary checklist of the “perfect victim.” Because rape is not suddenly less horrifying because the victim wasn’t the woman society considers “respectable.” And honestly, this puts me in a rage. Not because I think every allegation should automatically replace due process. But because we should be able to say something very simple without hesitation: If someone did not consent, their dignity does not disappear because we don’t like the way they lived. A victim does not have to be Maria Clara to deserve justice. SHE JUST HAVE TO BE HUMAN. #cornelluniversity #stoprape
