@brushandbarley: Let’s talk about my pencil grip👀 in all honesty. If I would’ve typed that out a couple years ago, I probably would’ve had a panic attack. (Like I would mask my grip and change it so I wouldn’t get hate comments so if you see a video with a different grip it’s a repost and that’s why🤗) In full transparency this used to be a huge insecurity of mine, I’m thankful that it does not trigger me near as much as it once did. In all reality, these comments are not truly about how I hold my pencil.. they represent how rooted we are in hiding behind screens. How we’ve lost genuine curiosity and replaced with impulse remarks and leave learning nothing new. So rather than me giving the whole spiel on why I hold my pencil the way I do I am going to simply paste a response comment I have replied to one of these posted on this video. This is because I think how we respond to comments like these will also determine the outcome of what we as creators crave to get from our audience.☺️ “ ________, Hi! I’m going to assume you don’t mean harm by this comment and genuinely curious so I would love to help educate on this subject. I had some disabilities when I was younger and in therapy for various things - including OT therapy that yes, did address my grip. Short answer, no I wasn’t taught to hold it “properly” because it was functional to me as a child and was not a concern for the various therapists I did encounter. I really recommend to look into the study of pencil grips in connection with those on the spectrum or neurodivergent - it truly is fascinating and also surprising to learn how many creatives and well known names have similar grips. All with love, but I do hope this maybe brings a different perspective on things someone can’t change. I’m glad that it’s no longer an insecurity for me, it still is for many. Curiosity is always welcome but we can be mindful of how it’s asked 🩷” I truly do hope that this lighthearted post helps somebody out there. You all were created intentionally and with purpose. I promise you. #neurodivergent #adhd #creative #artist #ipad
