She was born in 1490 in Bulgaria and became a vampire after escaping Klaus Mikaelson, who wanted to use her in a ritual. After becoming a vampire, Katherine spent centuries running from Klaus and doing whatever she could to survive. She became known for her intelligence, confidence, manipulation, and ability to always find a way out of dangerous situations. In 1864, Katherine arrived in Mystic Falls and became involved with the Salvatore brothers, Stefan and Damon. Her actions had a major impact on both brothers and their lives. Katherine is also Elena Gilbert’s doppelgänger, sharing the same appearance because of their connection to the Petrova bloodline. Despite often being selfish and cruel, Katherine is a complex character whose actions are strongly influenced by her past and her desire to survive.
