Caveat: I believe friendships should naturally unfold, but I also understand that as adults, our presence and proximity won’t always look like it did when we were younger and had fewer responsibilities. I think part of having healthy, grown friendships is understanding that we can give each other room to live our lives without making every absence mean something. We can give each other space and still show up when it matters, without anybody having to constantly explain themselves or prove the friendship is real. Some people require something different, and that’s okay. Some people are transitioning through different stages of life… give them grace. Some people just need a little more of themselves before they can fully show up for you, and that’s okay too. Establish the prerequisites of your friendships so everybody involved understands the assignment. 🩷
