had my HGV since 1987 started work with a firm near Glasgow T.Houston & Son hardy men and I learned how to be a driver with there teaching, ropes, sheets , chains and dwangs as we called them , roping and sheeting 7 loads of whiskey in Dumbarton during the day and taking the last load for delivery in Felixstowe the next day , the cameradier between drivers was the best , now drive with a big company , cameras, telematics toolbox talks coming out your arse , 5yrs till retirement and it can't come too soon

Started HGV in 1987. Learned all the fiddles with the tachos and fuses. No limiters so regularly speed off the edge of the disc. Got out of it as soon as the CPC came in. I’d already paid to get my license, didn’t need to pay for “extra training “ (back door tax). Absolutely loved my time on the road but don’t miss it now. Conditions are atrocious for drivers…..
