I read that she was dehydrating herself which makes your veins flatter so the IV probably wasnt going right into her vein

It sounds like the IV may have infiltrated and the medication went into the surrounding tissue instead of fully into her bloodstream. That would explain why she became sedated but didn’t die as expected.
