SITTING DOWN WITH A HEZB SUPPORTER The day before Hezbollah retaliated for Fuad Shukr’s death, I sat with Dr. Ali, a professor and also analyst of Hezbollah. After our conversation he went on Al Jazeera Arabic. I knew full well he would speak of Hezbollah in the most favorable light, and he even admitted that his job was to do so. As a journalist, I maintain criticism for all powerful, governing bodies, including this one. I understand the controversial nature of this conversation and that people have very strong opinions about the resistance. My strong opinion, is that I believe it is important to hear directly from the resistance during wartime since we very often hear from American and Israeli sources. For my own safety, I tried to keep a respectful but challenging tone, and although Dr. Ali couldn’t care less about being anonymous, for my own safety, I have kept him so. Ultimately, there are 3 groups of people in Lebanon when it comes to this group: 1) those who are ride or die no matter what; 2) those who are against no matter what; and 3) those who have grown softer on the group because of their commitment in fighting for Palestine. While Hezbollah has fought supportively on behalf of Hamas, more than 400 of its commanders, including senior cadres, have been assassinated. Huge parts of Lebanon’s southern villages, have been destroyed and their farmlands burned because of Israel. More than 100,000 Lebanese, most of whom are Hezbollah constituents, have been displaced from their homes as a result of the ongoing skirmishes. They have sacrificed a lot to keep this fight going. Right now, it seems like there has been a chill in the skirmishes. But the truth is, we never know what to expect when it comes to Hezbollah and Israel. NOTE: the jump cuts are both for time and because we’re in a loud cafe! #journalism #foryou #fyp #explore #explorepage #insta #instagram #tiktok #viral
