HTTD: How’s Koguma Doing? UPDATE 1 - Tropical Storm Koguma: Well, a new tropical storm arrives in the Western Pacific Basin, this time in the form of Tropical Storm Koguma, which recently formed yesterday in the easternmost part of the basin, also originating over a few islands of the Micronesian Region. Koguma is expected to intensify into a typhoon over the coming days and possibly reach major typhoon status by the end of the week, where it may team up with the recently immigrated and now converted Typhoon Nolo (update on that soon) into giving the Japanese mainland a bit of a jumpscare. As of right now, Koguma currently has maximum sustained winds of up to 50mph (~80kph) with an estimated central air pressure of 995mb, moving northwest at an estimated speed of 11mph. This storm is currently about 155 miles (~250km) north-northeast from the Bikini Atoll, a region that is part of the Micronesian Islands. The JTWC is currently expecting for the storm to continue intensifying at a gradual pace over the next 3 to 4 days, where it is subject to becoming a Category 1 typhoon by the middle of Wednesday tomorrow. Moreover, Koguma is forecast to begin moving more west-northwest, where it’ll continue to intensify into a potential major typhoon, possibly as a high-end Category 3 to low-end Category 4 typhoon, in which Koguma could start weakening as it comes close to the Ogasawara Islands of Japan. Forecasting models seem to be confident with the JTWC’s current forecast of Tropical Storm Koguma for the first 3 days, drawing a similar approach to that of the agency during that timeframe; however, exceptional amounts of uncertainty start to roll in once we get after the 3-day period, in which models can be visibly struggling to determine how close the storm will get to the Ogasawara Region before apparently curving to the northeast by the start of next week. We'll continue to monitor Koguma, as no impacts are expected for now. Future updates coming soon! #fyp #koguma #tropicalstormkoguma #tropicalstorm #update
