Twenty-five years after the events in Hamunaptra, Rick and Evie O’Connell have settled into a quiet life in England. Their days of desert curses and undead priests are supposed to be over. That changes the night a sealed crate arrives at the British Museum containing a previously unknown volume of the Book of the Dead — one written not to raise the dead, but to rewrite them. When the book is opened, Imhotep does not simply return. He is reborn… differently. The new Book has fragmented his essence, scattering pieces of his soul across time. One fragment awakens in the present as a partially mummified, still-dangerous version of the High Priest. Another fragment has been living in the shadows for decades under a different name, waiting. The O’Connells are forced back into the fight when the Museum’s night watch is found mummified from the inside out. They reunite with Jonathan (still chasing fortune and still spectacularly bad at it) and a weary Ardeth Bay, who has spent the last two decades hunting the last remnants of Imhotep’s cult. The twist comes when they discover Beni Gabor — long thought dead after the collapse of Hamunaptra — somehow survived, preserved by a lesser curse. He has spent years serving the scattered pieces of Imhotep, collecting relics and preparing the way for the High Priest’s full return. Now the final page of the Book of the Dead is missing, and whoever completes the ritual will control not just the undead… but the ability to erase people from history itself. As sandstorms rise over London and mummified soldiers begin marching through the streets, Rick, Evie, Jonathan, and Ardeth must race against time (and a very alive, very angry Imhotep) to destroy the Book before the past is rewritten… and they cease to have ever existed. Tagline stays the same: The past never stays buried.
