This man sold the world’s tallest tower before it even existed. Meet Mohamed Alabbar. Born in Dubai in 1956, Alabbar was the eldest of 12 children in a middle-class home. His father sailed for a living with no maps and no forecast, and plenty of danger, which Alabbar says taught him one thing: make big decisions. Growing up, Alabbar won a government scholarship and studied business in America. Then he came home and became a top economic advisor to Dubai’s ruler. But in 1997 he took a big risk and launched his own company called Emaar. Everyone doubted him. But he wasn’t just building real estate. He wanted to build destinations that could put Dubai on the world stage, and that bet produced the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, while Emaar expanded globally. Then he took Emaar public, and it grew into one of the biggest developers in the world. In 2024 alone, it earned 9.6 billion dollars. But he didn’t stop there. He launched Noon to take on Amazon and launched Eagle Hills to build destinations in Abu Dhabi and around the world. Today, Alabbar has built businesses across real estate, hospitality, food, and technology. The boy who grew up around Dubai’s old boats helped build the city the world knows today. . . . #storytelling #emaar #alabar #burjkhalifadubai #dubaistory
