A routine day at Lawrence High turned into a felony arrest for a student. The footage captures the moment administrators and school resource officers confronted 18-year-old Jahmir J. Green following a tip about a weapon. While the interaction began with the smell of marijuana coming from his backpack, the situation quickly escalated. A search of the bag turned up drugs, but the most dangerous discovery was found on Green himself. Officers recovered a loaded handgun directly from Green’s pocket. The school was immediately thrown into lockdown as K-9 units performed a room-by-room sweep of the building. Because he was 18, Green was charged as an adult with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and drug offenses. He was transported to the Mercer County Jail and is currently facing serious felony charges and expulsion. He was immediately placed on long-term suspension pending an expulsion hearing before the Board of Education. Given the recovery of a loaded weapon from his pocket, these hearings almost always result in permanent removal or placement in an alternative disciplinary school.
