@wildfactgalaxy: Why These Salmon Turn Bright Red 🐟 These sockeye salmon look completely different when they return to Alaska’s rivers. Their bodies transform from silver-blue to vivid red as they swim upstream to spawn. After reproducing, they usually die, completing one of the most remarkable life cycles in nature.

For those who don’t know- they are not fished at this stage, it’s considered unethical.

burning charsiew :

they taste nice or not?

poppy_dodo_42 :

they are NOT safe to eat, only maaaaaybe if its caught at the very beginning of their spawning season, their digestive systems literally shut down to save energy which makes them rot from inside

Raiden ◎ :

wild salmons are full of parasites

Jun July :

what fish is this?

Master Terrence Yuen :

The Alaskan Govt do not allow people to go into the salmon run ecology and Bear Country. Humans should just leave them alone. buy them in fish markets where you will never get the red colored skins. Once Humans get in, they will screw the Bears and other predators in the ecosystem. Once the system is screwed, the entire spawn may not survive swimming back to the ocean. just eat your farmed salmons abd leave these runs on their own.

samo :

is their meat poisonous at that final stage?
