they dont learn the names of the letters? how do they do when they need to know them for phonetical rules?

I have a 5 year old in year 1, and we've both had to learn phonics because it was so alien to me as I didn't learn to read phonetically when I was his age. certainly has been an experience

Not ALL children at all. 15 and 6 year old have never learned phonics and are strong readers. 🤣

We learnt the names of letter and we are able to read, write and spell. Kids who are learning the sounds are not able to do that.
