you were told that as a child for simplicity. it's true for the majority of the moons orbit, and they didn't have to explain orbital mechanics and angles of inclination and declination...but every sailor worth his salts and every person that used a farmer's alminac (both 1792 & 1818 editions) knew it was sometimes visible during the day, depending on the season and where you were.

• First Quarter (Half Moon): Visible for about 5 to 6 hours in the afternoon, from roughly noon to sunset. • Last Quarter (Third Quarter Half Moon): Visible for about 5 to 6 hours in the morning, from sunrise to noon. • Crescent Phases: Visible for even longer stretches during daylight hours (up to 75% of the day) because the moon is closer to the sun in the sky. • Full Moon and New Moon: You cannot see these in daylight. A full moon is opposite the sun and only stays visible at night. A new moon sits directly next to the sun and is completely hidden by glare.

Whatever he remembers, he either remembers wrong or he was told wrong. It’s that simple. People are trying to impose their misunderstanding or the wrong information they were given on evaluating how things are. One of my earliest memories is seeing the moon during the daytime, which is many more years back than I care to admit. And I have seen the moon during the daytime off and on my entire life. I’m regularly outside and this is not an unusual thing to see.

I don't ever remember seeing the moon out during the day as a child and we were definitely told that it was because it was on the other side of the earth also I wonder why if the moon has phases because of the shadow of the earth then why is the moon not full whenever the sun is out during the day it's still in its phase I just don't understand
