Before Birdie left the hospital, we made the decision to give her tail amputation ONE FINAL closure attempt😅 But this time, our biggest priority was making sure we didn’t sacrifice all the beautiful progress she had made if these sutures decide not to hold!! With some of her previous closures, the edges of the wound were cut back to create fresh tissue to stitch together, along with other measures meant to give the closure its best chance. The hard part was that when those closures failed, we ended up with an even bigger wound than we started with💔 So this time, we wanted to try something different. Preserve all the healthy tissue underneath, close it as minimally as possible, and provide maximum protection in her post op care. We passed on using a tie over bandage and used dissolvable sutures because our girl just needed to be DONE with the hospital😭 No more anesthesia for constant bandage changes, and if this closure opens, no rushing back to have sutures removed. We’ve learned SO much through every failed attempt. The way we position her, the cushions we use, how much she moves, how we protect the area, how closely we monitor her… a million tiny things are different this time. And we are hoping maybe all those tiny things together can make the difference. And so far… SO FREAKING GOOD!!!!!!🥳🤞🏼 It is definitely not easy. We are watching this girl like a hawk & protecting the booty at ALL COSTS🫡 while also loving the absolute heck out of our girl to make up for lost time💕 We have no idea what these sutures are going to do tomorrow, next week or beyond. But TODAY they’re closed. TODAY Birdie is home. TODAY she’s happy. And after the month we’ve had, we are celebrating that🥂
