@insightwire.com: The comments from Doron Spielman, international spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, followed a major mid-air security incident aboard flydubai flight FZ1073 traveling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Key Details of the Incident: The Emergency: The flight—carrying predominantly Israeli passengers—suffered a severe mid-air security scare roughly two and a half hours after takeoff. According to Israeli officials, a violent confrontation occurred in the cockpit when a co-pilot (identified by officials as an Omani citizen) allegedly attacked and stabbed the captain, attempting to crash the aircraft. Rapid Descent: Flight-tracking data indicated that the aircraft sharply plummeted—losing upwards of 14,000 to 17,000 feet in a matter of minutes/seconds—before stabilizing. Passenger Intervention: Spielman and passenger accounts detailed how the bloodied captain managed to use his remaining strength to unlock the cockpit door. This allowed passengers and crew to rush forward, overpower the attacker who was reportedly tampering with the control panels, and regain control of the plane. Landing in Saudi Arabia: The flight was diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where the suspect was arrested by local authorities and all passengers were reported out of danger. Spielman’s Statement Regarding Saudi Arabia: Addressing the handling of the crisis, Spielman commended Saudi authorities for managing the emergency “very professionally,” adding that “every Israeli is thankful” to the Kingdom for their cooperation and handling of the landed aircraft, which ensured the safety of the passengers on board.
