@unitetheunion: Household energy bills are forecast to see biggest rise in FOUR years 😳 This month, prices are set to go up under regulator Ofgem's October price cap. Meanwhile, privatised energy companies have continued to profiteer while people struggle to keep up with their bills. When is enough, enough? Unite Community member Kay explains why privatisation has failed and why we need a complete overhaul of the energy market based on public ownership to drive down bills and end profiteering. Last autumn, Unite published its Energy Profiteering report, which found that the UK’s privatised energy system and company profits are major factors behind high household energy bills. In 2024, energy companies made a total of £30 billion in profits. The report found that the average household is paying around £500 of its energy bill towards private company profits. We're calling for the renationalisation of the UK’s energy system. “It’s time to end the chaos in our energy network which allows profiteers to flourish while workers and communities are left in the cold… public ownership could help ease the cost of living crisis, aid industrial competitiveness and be a part of the solution to the climate crisis” 💬 - @unitesharon #EnergyBills #EnergyCrisis #PublicOwnership #RenationaliseEnergy #CostOfLiving

And even though it’s all of these things, they still make a profit so rather than cut the profit and give us all a bit of a break. They’ve got to squeeze us for every penny for it to sit in somebody’s bank account

the energy companies are making billions and so is the government while we're all freezing to death. I can't beleive its 2026 and I can't remember a time when the country has been in such a bad state. Everyone should join a union and the unions should start a political for the workers.
